Active Fusion apprentice makes the most of his opportunities during half-term

Current Active Fusion apprentice Hunter Gadd is making the most of the opportunities presented to him, inspiring children in Conisbrough to be happy, healthy and active.

Hunter started his apprenticeship in September, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and has taken every opportunity to come his way.

Young people have found work hard to come by, with many businesses and organisations not taking on new employees or having to let people go.

In 2020, Active Fusion took on more apprentices than ever before, with the education sector quick to give young people the chance of employment. One of those to benefit from Active Fusion’s “˜Time To Get Back On Track’ campaign was Hunter.

When asked why he decided to join Active Fusion, Hunter stated how his passion for sport made it an obvious choice upon leaving school.

He said: “I’m interested in the work they do and wanted to be part of a team where I enjoy the work and get involved regularly.

“Being able to go out and work while supporting the lives of young people through engagement in sport has definitely helped me deal with the pandemic in a very positive way.”

Benefits aplenty

As part of his apprenticeship programme, Hunter took the opportunity to work on Active Fusion’s holiday camp in Conisbrough, ready and willing to offer children activities and challenges they desperately needed.

Alongside supporting the lead coaches on camp, Hunter was able to develop his coaching knowledge by leading sessions aimed at keeping children physically stimulated.

He said: “Working on the camp was fun and rewarding as I got the opportunity to share my interest in sports with children.

“I knew it would be a good opportunity as it would be beneficial for my experience as well as beneficial for the children to receive high-quality and engaging activities throughout half-term.”

Teamwork makes the dream work

The camps gave children the chance to interact and socialise with their friends and other children for the first time since before Christmas, with plenty of team activities and sessions being delivered.

Teamwork was evident from the start, with Hunter impressed by the way children worked together to complete challenges.

He said: “Watching them work together in teams supporting one another and encouraging them to be their best was great to see.

“They were clearly enjoying all activities and found an interest for everything they did on camp. It was a great experience all around.”

“Being able to go out and work while supporting the lives of young people through engagement in sport has definitely helped me deal with the pandemic in a very positive way.”

Forever looking forward

With six months left of his apprenticeship, Hunter is committed to making sure he takes every opportunity presented to him.

With more camps looking hopeful as we progress further into 2021, Hunter could once again see himself leading worthwhile coaching to those children who need it the most.

He said: “I would, without a doubt, work on camp again. It was an amazing experience and judging from the smiles of the children at Conisbrough, I think it’s fair to say they have enjoyed it as much as I have.”
