Rory’s Story: A Champion of Kindness and Team Spirit at Fusion Camp
Rory aged 8, joined our Longtoft Fusion Camp during the May half-term, having attended previously. Rory was eager to make a return, as he was excited to reunite with both his friends and coaches. He couldn’t wait to dive straight back into the activities and discover new sports.
Rory’s Spare Time Activities
Rory loves to keep active, in his spare time he participates in football training, on both Thursday and Saturday. When Rory isn’t at football training he is either playing outside in the fresh air or playing Fortnite. Rory shares, he is conscious that he doesn’t spend too much time on screens and makes sure he gets enough fresh air each day. It is great to see Rory thrive at camp, loving time away from his screen and embracing every opportunity.
Camp Highlights
Rory absolutely loved every second of camp! He took part in every activity, every game and was always playing with the other children during their lunch break. When we asked Rory what his favourite aspect of camp was he shared, “Everything! My favourite thing was everything! I loved all of the sports, especially Football, I like that it’s not just about scoring goals it’s about having fun and playing. The tagging and team games were so much fun too!” It’s amazing to see children so happy at camp. Rory spent every second with a big smile on his face. At camp, we provide an inclusive environment, where every child is involved and doesn’t feel intimidated by any of the activities, allowing children to step outside of their comfort zone and discover new sports.
Dodgeball Champion
Rory dedicated himself to improving his dodgeball skills, carefully working on his timing and refining his throwing technique. He shared proudly, “I might even be a dodgeball champion when I’m older!” His confidence and enthusiasm were clear throughout camp. In addition to his personal achievements, Rory made impressive progress in his teamwork actively listening to others and showing genuine respect for their ideas.
Rory’s Positive Camp Progression
Coach Nathan shared, “At the start of camp, Rory would sometimes get frustrated during games and would take himself aside to calm down. As his coaches, we made it a priority to support him, sitting with him, encouraging him, and helping him rebuild his confidence. It was wonderful to watch him grow and begin to shine.”
Each day, Rory’s confidence visibly grew. He faced challenges head-on and developed some of the strongest teamwork skills at camp. A standout moment was when one of his friends became upset after being placed on a different team. Rory immediately noticed and kindly offered to swap teams to help his friend feel more comfortable. His empathy and support for others were truly inspiring.
As camp came to a close, Rory was awarded a small prize in recognition of his kindness and exceptional teamwork. He can’t wait to return, sharing, “If camp was on every day, I’d be there! I just love everything about it, and I’ll be back next time full of excitement.”
